On Wednesday, the NHL let teams announce their home openers as a lead up to the official 2017-18 schedule release on Thursday afternoon.
The Colorado Avalanche announced that they will host the Boston Bruins on Wednesday October 11th for their home opener at Pepsi Center.
We also found out that the Avs will start the season on the road, as they will be a part of two eastern conference teams’ home openers.
On Thursday October 5th, Colorado will start the regular season on the ice of Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Rangers. Two nights later, on Saturday October 7th, the Avs will play the Devils in New Jersey.
Now, with a three day gap between the New Jersey game and the home opener against the Bruins, there is thought that the Avs might play another game on the road, and it’s very possible that could be in Brooklyn against the New York Islanders on either that Sunday or Monday. The NHL is usually very good at scheduling Western Conference teams to play all three of the New York City area teams in the same road trip, so that is why we think this is a possibility.
So here is what we know so far:
Thursday, October 5th: Colorado Avalanche @ New York Rangers
Saturday, October 7th: Colorado Avalanche @ New Jersey Devils
(Possibility of game @ New York Islanders?)
Wednesday, October 11th: Boston Bruins @ Colorado Avalanche
We will find out the full Avalanche 2017-18 regular season schedule on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. MT.
